The opener revealed that he has conveyed his decision to the team management. "I have communicated it to the team management and the head coach and I wish the best for the team," Tamim said in a zoom press conference ahead of the three-match ODI series versus New Zealand. On a positive note, despite being troubled by a hamstring issue, Tamim insisted that he is hopeful of playing the opening ODI. Incidentally, the left-hander was ruled out of the intra-squad warm-up game on March 16 due to a hamstring problem. ''I am hopeful of playing the opening game. I have practiced today and will be practicing tomorrow, and I am in good shape following the hamstring injury." Tamim is the second senior to miss the T20I series after Shakib Al Hasan opted not to travel to New Zealand taking paternity leave. The all-rounder has also opted out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka in April in order to be available for the IPL 2021. ''We have to look at it in this manner that we might not get all the players every time, and we must look forward (to playing) even when they are not available,'' Tamim noted when asked about Shakib's absence. Despite the absence of the ace all-rounder, the southpaw sounded confident of his team's chances in the ODI rubber. The opening batsman stressed upon the point that Bangladesh's pacers are in 'good shape'. Incidentally, the Asian nation has picked six pace bowlers for the series. ''Firstly, I think the pace bowlers are in good shape (and) now they have to execute. Second... all the team members are having the faith in them to do well. We have got the best possible preparation ahead of the series and now it's time for us to deliver. ''We will play with three pace bowlers along with (an) all-rounder. In New Zealand, we have to play with five genuine bowlers because it can be difficult at times if you are playing with four bowlers,'' he added. Tamim also said that he would like to see the left-arm paceman Mustafizur Rahman taking up the mantle of being the leader of the attack. ''Mustafizur must take that role (spearheading the bowling unit)... he is quite shy and he must come over it and be a bit more vocal." The three ODIs will be played on March 20, 23 and 26 in Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington respectively.
